2nd review
Went for my 2nd review today.
As 8th Uncle was turning into the taxi stand, I was shocked to see a long queue forming ( and Hello Kitty craze is already way over ). Due to the Swine Flu ( or something ), NUH had started taking measures. People who go into the hospital had to have their temperature taken and NRIC registered.
Thankfully, I need not join the mad queue, as I was there for appointment. Besides, with that brace around my left leg and 2 crutches under both my armpits, I can’t stand for long. A staff let me in via another way. Yes! The pirority queue. Of course, given a choice, I would rather not have a bad knee.
Had a x-ray taken.
Hmm… Cracks are still visible but thankfully, the metal wire are still in place. It’s kind of demoralising to see that the cracks ain’t healing. Still, better then nothing. Another appointment set on the 21st May.
Met up with Ming Jin. Last time I saw him was when he visited @ the hospital.
While driving around NUS, looking for an un-crowded spot to settle for lunch, he told me that everytime after he drive, he’ll have to rest for an hour to calm himself down. You see? He’s driving a manual. So happens that NUS have lots of slope and when the vehicle in front stop, you will have to stop too ( duh? ), pull the hand-brake, change to gear 1 and wait for your turn to start again. The shitty thing is that if you miss the biting point, your car will roll backwards and if you bump into that Mercedes behind you, good luck~
After lunch, we went for KTV @ Clementi. My 2nd session within a week. The first one was with the Kee’s group last Saturday.
A fun 3.5 hours spent. Thanks for sending the crippled guy home M.J.
Anniversary
It’s my Happy one month anniversary since my fracture on the 26th MAr. To be precise, it’s one month lus 2 days. I’d forgotten to blog this entry last Sunday. Muahaha…
Here’s the X-ray…
Before…
*Ouch* I don’t think I will have the courage to do a shuttle run next time.
After…
Not meant for the weak-hearted to view…
On the road to recovery…
First physio session quite okay yesterday. The therapist F me for not using crutches. I didn’t know that unless the doctor give the go, else I’ll have to keep using crutches.
*pull hair* no one told me…
Keep my finegers damn cross that nothing will happen… I don’t wanna go for another operation again…
Thanks…
Big thanks to the following group of friends who’d visited me for the past week…
1) Sharon, Xiao Ge, Ying Mei, Kartina and Genki. They dropped with my favorite Hor Fun from our favorite haunt @ C.C.K, and brought along Wii ( Credits to Sharon ) . Endless fun and laughter playing Wii… Haha…
2) Shirmaine who visited me with Subway, French Fries and Bubble Tea… Had a great lunch talking to her…
3) Cuiling and Patricia who popped by with Durian Puffs and Dvds. Cuiling brought along 5 to choose from. We chose a dumb blonde/lame movie starring Anna Faris. You know? The actress from Scary Movie Quadrology and My Super Ex-Girlfriend? That’s the one…
4) Ashley and Natalie… Sakae Sushi, Old Chang Kee and my favorite bubble tea. When I told Ashley that I want Red Tea, she said, “Why not I get you the tea-bags from NTUC instead?”
-__-” I told her that it’s DIFFERENT… haha…
It was damn funny. Both Nat and Ash were trying to eat their handroll. However, the seaweed is inside a layer of plastic. There’s supposed to be a way whereby you can easily get the seaweed out of that plastic, without spilling the content out. Both of them spent like close to 5 minutes ‘playing’ around with it. I told Ash that I could get her a bowl, so that she can eat in it. Lolz…
Went for my review yesterday… The kneecap is less swollen now. They removed the stitches and the doctor told me that I should try to bend my left knee to 60 degree. Next review is on the 30th. Hopefully I can do so by then…I so wanna go MAmbo and have Long Island Tea… haha
Fear
Other than the fear of waiting ( and pain of course ), the next fear in line is a urine catheter up *ahem*. What about needles and injection you asked? Well, I’m a combat medic trained. Had to practice IV using 16 G needle ( think thickness of a satay stick ) last time, so kind of immune to it.
THANKFULLY, they didn’t insert one into me. If not I can really die… from shame… haha…
I had 2 operation done. The first one was the most painful one. I was given entonox, I think. Before I could even count to 10, I KO-ed. It was the excruciating pain that woke me up from my sleep. After which, they gave me morphine to sort of kill the pain. That didn’t really help, but I kind of felt like I’m floating on air. Haha… It just a drug to sort of help you sleep.
My balls shrunk when the doctor informed me that a 2nd operation was needed. And again, I had to fast, surviving on 3 packets of Hartmann solution for next 25 hours. This time round, they gave me an injection on my left limb to numb the area. The nurse woke me up after the operation.
A ‘numd’ nurse popped by the next day to check on the the numbness level on my left leg. Thinking that the injection site was on somewhere around the left thigh, I happily showed it to her. She shook her head and said, “No, it’s not there!” and drew the curtains.
I was like, ‘Then where!’
… It was near my groin area. They must had gave me the jab after I KO-ed. Hallelujah~
I experienced difficulty in peeing after both operation. You know those kind of situation whereby you already have a full bladder but just can’t seem to let it out? That’s damn depressing, can? I thought that something is wrong with my system already. I updated MY about both the injection and the peeing thing. He told me that it’s ‘ji scary’ and that it’s ‘kind of shagged’.
ARGHHH… I’m gonna miss running and swimming for a long time to come…
Visit
I’d 2 groups of good friends from Secondary School Days.
Group A consists of Sharon, Ying Mei and Kartina.
Group B consists of Chew Li, Wei Long, Cuiling, Shaoya, Sherlyn and Patricia.
Group A visited me on Day 2.
I was lying on the bed, talking to an officer from my NS unit. He was there to visit me and at the same time, to pass me a document so that I don’t have to pay a single cent for my hospital stay and the operation. As he handled me that piece of document, he said, “Army will take care of you!”
Well, I’d gotten myself injured while fulfilling an army requirement after all. I updated MY on this part. He kind of surprised me by asking me, ” Was it a Friday?” I replied yes. He then told me that, ‘No wonder!’ It was a Friday, a good excuse to knock off from camp early citing, ‘paying a visit to a injured personal at the hospital’. Haha… Trust him to come out with that one.
Halfway through the conversation, Sharon, Ying Mei and Kartina walked in. I let out an audible OH MY GOD! Not due to the fact that I’m overwhelmed that they dropped by for a visit ( Okay! Partly!), but it was because Ying MEi was holding onto a ‘Get Well Soon!” balloon with a picture of ‘Me 2 U’ bear printed on it.
And that was their first surprise.
The second surprise was a plushie, which I thought was a dog but was actually a donkey.
And the 3rd surprise was ( Before they took it out from the bag, I asked them, “Don’t tell me you gals bought me FHM!” ) It was a copy of Maxim -_-” I told Sharon that it’s a ‘right thing at a wrong timing’ as I don’t even have the mood for a moment of D.I.Y. And even if I have the mood, I’m in a bloody hospital. I jokingly told them to help me draw the curtains and give me 10 peaceful minutes. Haha…
Sharon’s eyes kinda popped out. She asked, “So fast?”
-_-” I mean, speaking of experience? Haha…
And yar, they gave me a card too. On the cover was a picture of a dog, with one of it’s leg bandaged. I squinted at Ying Mei and asked her did she bought the card on purpose?
Turned out it’s a cruel coincidence, as she didn’t knew that the dog had a bandaged on.
THANK YOU to you 3…
And to Kartina’s friend, Shu Ting, too.
Shit! I’d missed out on the point that Kartina is actually working as a nurse in the A and E department. On the day that I was in there, she had already knocked off. However, she informed her friend. Shu Ting, to take care of me.
I’d to fast the whole from Friday 0000 hrs as I was scheduled for an operation. It wasn’t till 2130 hrs that I was pushed into the Operating Theater.
Other then those 3, my gang of cousins also visited me on that day.
OMG! They actually divided themselves into 2 rows, standing opposite, facing each other. As I was being pushed pass them, each of them waved me a dramatic goodbye. Not only that, the whole lot actually walked behind me till they couldn’t send me any further. The nurse who was pushing me was laughing. Ermmm despite my pathetic condition, I was laughing too.
Anyway back to thank-ing Shu Ting. She visited me on Saturday morning, after ending her night shift, to pass me bread and milk. Thank you very much…
And also to Kartina, who will popped on those morning after ending her night shift~
Big thanks to Cuiling, Sherlyn, Pat and Shaoya also. Thanks for the BRANDS~ hehe
Waiting for a bed
I reached NUH around 7 pm. Before that, I’d already gave my mum a ‘peace’ call to inform her about what had happened to me.
The wait for an available bed is extremely long. After ‘assessing’ my injured site, they sent me for an X-ray and gave me a temporary cast, to immobilize it. The doctor told me that an operation was needed. My heart sank.
M.Y was kind enough to drop by for a visit after the IPPT test. You know how they say good friends are hard to come by? I shall add in, BEST friends are even harder. He was denied entry as I was inside the A and E department. He didn’t get to see me, so he went off to meet his sister for dinner. After which, he returned again, together with his sister, and dinner for me (Mcspicy Meal). THKS BRO, you are the best!
Both my mum and bro was allowed to see me after I got the cast on.
Ming Jin was there too. We were supposed to go clubbing next day, but given my condition, I couldn’t even walk, let alone dance. Therefore, I text-ed to inform him. Turned out that he was in schoo (NUS), therefore he popped by too.
It wasn’t till 1130pm till I got warded. Mum, bro and MJ was gone by then, but MY and his sister ,Angelia, waited for me. I really appreciate it. Thanks a lot again.
Fearing that they would be ‘kicked out’ of the ward as it was already 1130pm, way past visiting hours, MY actually came out with the idea of ‘act as though we are KL’s siblings’. Since my name is Kee Lin, he called himself ‘Kee Tan’ and his sister ‘Kee Qin’, that is if the nurse was to ask ‘Who are you both related to the patient?’” Muahahaha
Can’t wait to go Mambo with them after I recover
Fracture
Had a freak accident last Thursday. Was taking my IPPT test, doing the shuttle run. Just as I was to do a turn, I heard a sickening ‘clack’ sound from my left kneecap. I immediately sat down on the ground with my left leg straight, as I felt a sharp pain.
I couldn’t stand on my own after that. Ming Yong, who was waiting with another friend at the end, ran over. After taking a look at my deformed kneecap, he shouted for the medic. I almost punched that person who suggested that I should stand up and gave my left leg a kick to get the bones back into their original location, as he though that it’s a case of dislocated bones. Fuck! Luckily, I didn’t heed his very great advice as the diagnose was Fracture at Left Patella.
I was referred to NUH by the Medical Officer.
So there, I spent a week at the hospital. And P.S, had 2 operation done…
will update again
