The Fish Bone Choke

Filed under: Day to Day — heeren84 @ 11:09 pm

Halfway through enjoying the grouper, Shu Hui suddenly asked whether will they be serving fried rice as the second last course. In case you don’t know, the second last course of a Chinese Wedding Dinner is usually either fried rice, or fried ee mee.

I took a look at the menu and informed Hui that it’s Ee Mee and asked why the sudden concern?

“I think I might have swallowed a fish bone and now it’s stuck in my throat…”

“Dont tell me you are going to do the traditional Chinese way by eating rice, to ‘push’ the fish bone down? We aren’t in Kampung, you know?” I replied and rolled my eyes at her. I can’t believe that she actually want to pull that off. Don’t she know that it’s the worst way to treat a fish bone choke? Imagine the bone didn’t go down with the rice and pierced even way deep into the side of your throat! It’s reporting to the A&E department in Changi Hospital for you! ( We are having the dinner in Expo, which explains Changi Hospital!)

“Yes! That’s what I’m thinking!” She replied with a very faraway look.

“NO! Don’t even do it! It’s not going to work! Why not we try this instead! I heard that you just have to fold a piece of cloth into a square shape with a slice of fish in it, put it on top of your head, cover it with a bowl and start knocking the bowl with a pair of chopstick! That should do the trick! I suggested.

… And it’s her turn to roll her eyes at me. I guess that’s what we call the Pot calling the Kettle black!

We were talking about those lame moments back in Poly throughout the dinner. My favorite is during the time at chalet. The whole group of us, 8 people if I remembered correctly, squeezed into the the bathroom and turned on the showerhead. Miurel was one of the unlucky few who was stucked in the center of the group, with the water falling all over her. And this Kevin, who’s right in front of the faucet, turned it to warm, or rather hot, water. That got Miurel and some of the others, screaming away. Sadly, they couldn’t escaped as they were stucked in the middle!!! Muahahaha…

And that was 6 years ago?

Fuck! Time flies!
